I just bought a sony hard drive recorder and i cant make it record or play from the hard drive.?

it plays pre recorded dvds but i cant get it to record from the t.v. it is hooked up with an hdmi cable

  2. Sounds like you probably just have a single HDMI cable hooked up to output digital audio and video from the Sony recorder to the TV. If this is the case...  you'll have to study the manual and make the appropriate connections in order to record. A source needs to be plugged into the recorder's inputs... or the recorder needs to be hooked up to your antenna, cable, etc... if it has an internal tuner to record from.
