  1. 1 = run the VIDEO component cables (red, blue, green) from the dvd player to the tv. {this will take care of the video.}

    2 =  than run the AUDIO left (white) and right (red) to the reciever (the thing that the speaker wire comes from. {this will take care of the audio}

    notes = do not run audio cables to the tv AND the surround sound reciever. it should be either the speakers built into the tv. OR your external fronts, center, and surround speakers.(the reciever drives the surround sound system). you have the surround sound system so follow the top 2 instructions.

    Also, if you do not have component video or do not have these three cables that deliver the video. you probably have a composite (yellow) that should go to the tv plugged into....the yellow-probably "video 1".  This theory works for all sources. cable dvd vcr etc. just throw all the video feeds to the tv and the audio to the reciever.

    bonus = If you have digital = optical or coaxial plug those into the digital in on the reciever instead of analog audio into the reciever. This will give you the real surround decoding your reciever will process. That is if you have a decient reciever.

  2. the green, red, blue connections is called component and are for video the white and red are for audio. yellow is for video too but the quality is lower than component.

  3. the RGB slot is your component video connection.  Your speakers should be hooked into a red and white slot.  Red Right, white Left.  The way it should work, if you have a switcher when you select a peripheral e.g. DVD the audio and video should sync up.  Most likely you have and internal switcher meaning your DVD player has the switcher built in.  However I am not able to answer your question completely because I don't know how it is set up, i.e. weather or not you have a switcher or not.  I hope this helps a little.
