I am taking it to a machanic to have it checked out. I am having a tune-up done also. What sort of things do I need to have looked at? What kind of questions should I ask the mechanic? Its a used car..not a new one. Its a 1995 Geo Metro. Looks great and only has 65,ooo miles on it.

  1. make sure he checks the CV joints.

be cautious with the door handles and window cranks tend to break easily. best order some now they are hard to find.

  2. Have your brakes checked, and your exhaust.  If it is a stick shift have the clutch adjustment checked.  If it is an automatic have your fluid checked, get the oil changed unless it looks clean.  Oh, and check air filter, and wiper blades.

A Geo Metro is super great on gasoline.  I have seen Geo's easily give good service to 150,000 miles, so keep the oil changed regularly.

  3. You should have asked BEFORE you purchased the car! Tire tread should have even wear, motor oil should not be jet black or have water in it, tranny fluid should be pink, and look for rust. Test drive- pick up ok? Front end feel ok? Brakes feel ok? Funny noises? I hope you can trust this mechanic! Good luck!

  4. Just tell the Pep boys you are thinking of buying this car and you would like one of their "pros" to check everything out.  If you haven't paid/bought it yet, why are you spending money on it for a "tune up" ?
