the red lights are caused becouse something inside has broken or you have broke it  if you take a game outif it frezzes you will get the red lights hope i helped

I got the red ring of death on my xbox, usually its caused by overheating. The first shipments of the xbox 360 have been more commonly known to have this problem. Make sure that you keep your console in an environment that is dust free, and try not to smoke around it alot. Also make sure that the back fan and ventilation don't have anything blocking them. I have yet to have a problem with my second 360, so I think you have good odds. Also, Xbox 360 has extended the warranty for "General hardware failure" (Ring of death" to 3 years, so you're good and covered.
