I just bought an HD TV, a 42" 1080p LCD, this model: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8719078&type=product&id=1201306784758.

I have an old XBOX 360 with no HDMI output (I'm using the components that came with it). Should i get an Elite? I know there's a lot of argument over component vs. hdmi but I KNOW my television has 1080p support. I just don't want to waste $450 if I won't see a difference.

The viewing distance from me to the television is less than 10 feet.

  1. Just buy a cable for your 360 with an HDMI output

  2. Even though your TV will support 1080p, your Xbox 360 does not "necessarily" support 1080p.  I say this because, unless you have the add-on HD-DVD player, you won't get too much 1080p content from your Xbox 360 or on the Xbox Live Marketplace.  I believe the best it can do is 720p/1080i.  I'd double check this and, if you do confirm this, save your $450 and buy a Blu-Ray player or something that can truly utilize your 1080p LCD...

EDIT:  The Xbox360 Elite does not have a dedicated high definition disc player...

  3. The new 360 Pro consoles have hdmi and a 60gb harddrive...

  4. My girlfriend runs her Xbox 360 using the component cable issued with the system and gets beautiful 1080i out of it and this is one of the first generation 360's, not one of the later generation with the HDMI output like my Elite. She is the only one in the house that has HDMI suport and when I connected my Elite threw HDMI and played Halo 3 it was only displayed in 1080i. I'd save your money and get a Blu-Ray player (or PS3 which does Blu-Ray movies and PS3 games in 1080p) becuase you really won't get much of a diffrence in the versions of the 360.

  5. i would purchase an elite...bigger harddrive....hdmi port..and cable...

    big deal--

  6. You can get 1080p over composite/component.
