  1. In Focus make some very good projectors so it's certainly a "brand name".

The LP650 is an older projector originally selling for over $3000. That said, projector prices have dropped in the last couple of years, so a new projector with equivalent performance would be in the $1000 range.

The specs (DLP, 1024x768, 2500 lumens, 800:1 CR, 1.4:1 zoom, component and digital input (M1), 35/33 dB noise) are a bit of a mix today. The digital and component capability are good, so is the high brightness level, but fan noise is a bit high and contrast ratio is weak in today's world (That said the rated 800:1 is quite possibly comparable to projectors today rated at 2000:1 or even more due to the lack of standard methadology).

I can't comment whether the DLP colour wheel speed will be high enough to minimize the possibility of inducing "rainbow effect" (look elsewhere on the site at the 1st link for further info) if you are susceptible. Older projectors sometimes had slow wheels (less than 4X) that increased the chance ... but most people are not particulelry sensitive, so it may be entirely a non issue. On a positive point DLP projectors arguably have better longivity than LCD projectors.

Yoiu could probably get a projector with 800x600 resolution for $300-$400, but what you have is a name brand projector, that should work well in a home theatre environment (depending on video processing capability ... but IF are well respected in general).

Considering a new lamp is $550 from at least one source (2nd link), I think you got a fair deal (It wouldn't have been if it were an old lamp). That said ... read the 3rd link on how to maximize lamp life.
