I just bought an older compound bow made in the early 90s i was told i cant shoot carbon arrows?

I was told i cant shoot carbon arrows because the bow wasn't designed for them and the limbs could be damaged from shooting them. Is this true or can i go carbon instead of aluminum arrows?

Sounds strange, but I believe that you can go with some of the heavier carbon arrows and would not have any problem.

I can understand if it was early 70's, but early 90's?  See if you can find the website of the manufacturer and check with them.  If you can't, do as the other poster said.  Find a good archery store and ask them.

The issue might be that the carbon arrow is lighter, and the bow

is designed for more resistance when released.

This could cause overstressing of the cables or limbs,

(like with a dry fire).

Check the weight of the entire arrow you intend to use against

one of the older ones.

Maybe use a heaver head.

I would check with several sporting goods stores about this, sort of get second opinions. Also, see if there is such a thing as a web site for bow hunting enthusiasts and maybe they have a blog on there so you could ask questions.  So many times, people think just because it is new(anything) that only new things will work with it but that is not always the case.

Also, is there a bow hunting club in your area?  Older bow hunters who have lots of experience with these might be able to guide you or at least give you the real low down and not try to sell you something.

Carbon arrows came out in the early 90's and I dont recall anyone telling me my bow bought in 1993 couldnt shoot em. I just never did because at the time aluminum was alot less hassle and cheaper. Todays modern carbon arrows shouldnt hurt that bow one bit as long as you get arrows heavy enough for the draw weight you are shooting. Currently I shoot a bow made in the late 90's to early 2000's and it handles carbons very nicely. I love em.
