I just bought two rats that do not seem to like me yet. Help please!?

Question

I bought two new rats after my other two passed away and thought they would be something like my other ones but they aren't. My old ones use to eat out of my hands and run on wheels and when I taped on the top of their cage theyed run up all the ramps and come to get on my shoulder.my new ones on the otherhand come up only when im very still and sleep alot. One of them still has all his baby fur the other has a little stripe of baby fur down the center of his back. Could they just sleep more becaus they are young?

how long ago did you get them

they may take a little while to come to you and get used to you if you think when you first got your old rats they wouldn't have been what you just remember them as they will have been the same

did you check how old they were they may have beeen a little bit young to leave their morther and are tsill ajusting to being alone

arre they family?

They need time to settle into their new surroundigns. It will take a while for them to warm up, just keep handling them. More tips and information on trust training:

give em a while to get use to where they are

think about it

you lose all of your cage mates

you lose the familer saroundings

and it will just take a while

it will take some time. if you got them from a pet store, they probably werent handled very much. try feeding them some treats from your hand so they get used to the smell. once they get comfortable taking food from you, try gently picking them up for a few minutes. i did this with all of my rats.

Usually when you first get a rat let it get used to its new surroundings and new owner. When I first got my rat he was really scared. But after he got used to everything he was really sweet.

yea a lot of hamsters sleep a lot when they are young like humans and they are babies so it will take longer for them to know you but they will get to know you soon...just make them sniff your hand and maybe sometimes put food on it...then hen days pass you could carry him and put him in your shoulder
