I just broke my highest-pitch string for my Guitar, how do I replace it?

I've only had the guitar a few days, and I was trying to tune it according to a video but I snapped the 1st (thinnest) string. I'm going to buy some spare strings, but how do I replace the string on my own? Also can you give me some tips for tuning? I know about the 5,5,5,4,5 method, but I don't know if my thickest string is already in tone so I can do the rest.

  1. You can go to a music store where they sell strings and tuners.
