I just came to a realization. Please read!?

Question

Fred, YouTube superstar, was on CNN. Many other popular YouTube comedians/stars have built their own fifteen minutes of fame. I have a question for you all:

YouTube is the new Hollywood. I've heard of people either expanding/starting their acting/singing careers online. Do you agree/disagree with me on this judgment?

oh I totally think is a great way to get exposer! And to get your name out there.. But I don't think it would launch a career, I'm sure it would help as in acting/talent agents might see you and contact you, thus expanding your career..

But I think Youtube is mainly a good way to get an others oppinion on how you are as a singer/actor..

i wouldn't go as far as saying it's the new hollywood, but youtube is definitely a great way to get discovered.  even if the chances are slim, it's still free.

No you're completely wrong.

If youtube was the new Hollywood, you'd be able to make money out of it.  As dozens of comedy shows have pointed out, this still hasn't happened.  I

Youtube isn't the Hollywood, it's the new amateur hour with a larger audience.  It is a stepping stone, not a destination.  A simple chance to put your talent out there with the hope that other media will pick you up.

For the rest yeah you can reach a larger audience on line, but what good does it do if that doesn't translate into larger live audiences, who actually pay you money, or album sales? Let's face it, if you're watching an act on youtube, odds are you aren't buying their album, you'll just watch them more on youtube.  

The whole point of Youtube stars is to give the "reality show" stars someone to look down on.

I'm going to go against the apparent tide and agree with XXMachine.

   Obviously IT is free, although some monitoring happens, and Vids do get yanked, it is akin to a poor mans, dollar theater, in my opinion.

   From any attempts I see here, they are poorly set, poorly lit, with horrible acoustics and camera work. For the most part they are Brief examples of a PSA in a solicitous attempt to be noticed. I don't dispute that they are a way to get noticed, if anyone truly cared to watch, who had the time and influence, but if the examples I've seen are any indication of a species de-evolving in the sense of creative talent, You Tube, certainly exhibits that.

   Beyond that, I doubt anyone, or many in Hollywood, are scanning You tube on a daily basis, scouting talent. Certainly for the creator of any Vid. they are usually soliciting by posting the links to their vid. everywhere they can. The fact that they are FREE to view, in my opinion, reaffirms the fact that they aren't worth any admission price. If you tube is considered the new Hollywood, and becomes more popular, I suspect we are in deep doo with regard to notions of quality, and that You tube might one day vanish in being absorbed

I totally agree. The internet is a great place for people to build a name and attract attention to themselves, in both good and bad ways.
