Hello guys,

I am now currently in grade 9 in Australia and although i am in class 1 for almost every subject, i just simply cannot study at home. This is really worrying because i got exams in 4 weeks and in the long-run i wana be an automotive engineer and this needs alot of study.

Simply saying, what do you sugges is the most effective way of studying and doing homework at home without being distracted?

Thanks

  1. I am easily distracted while studying.  One trick that I use is to play instrumental music just loud enough to drown out any little noises that might take my attention away from where I want it to be.  For me, instrumental music is best because anything with words is an even bigger distraction than the normal noises of our house.

  2. Get your hands on some adderal or ritalyn.  That stuff will jack you up wooh boy!

  3. Find a place where you can relax and get homework done, you obviously can't get it done at home so stop wasting your time and trying to do it at home. Go to the library or try studying outside where there's fresh air to clear your mind.

  4. Go to the public library, seeing other people study should make you more interested.

  5. I use ear plugs.  I have a big family and find it all distracting.  Ear plugs work.

  6. studying is really just a matter of what works for you.

one /very/ important thing is that you have a room solely for study - don't do it on your bed, or in the lounge with the tv on, and listening to music works for some people, but i wouldn't necessarily recommend it. you need a study place so that every time you enter the room, you automatically go into 'study mode'. if you study in the lounge or the dining room, there'll be too many distractions - family members coming in and out, your favourite tv show, etc. you definitely need that space that just gets your body into the mode where it knows it needs to study: that space should be quiet, well lit, have a desk big enough and a chair that you're comfortable in.

as for the actual study, that's again what works for you. for things like history, psychology and science, i tend to like making summaries - make sure you do everything in your own words, because that makes it a lot easier to remember. then, make summaries of your summaries, so that they're as short as possible.

for things such as definitions/dates/lote words/etc, flashcards work AMAZINGLY. on one side, write the definition/date/word, and on the other side, write the answer. it should make you learn to recognise the information as soon as you see the cue. works very well for me. you can get good cue cards from office works.

other things which work for other people are acronyms, flow charts, diagrams, annotated pictures, etc. try a few different things and see what works for you.

    there are numerous study sites which assist with tips, just search them in google. but here are some that i like best;

    http://www.how-to-study.com/

    http://www.studytips.org/

another tip is to take regular breaks. every twenty minutes, you should get up and have a stretch, get a drink, watch tv for fifteen minutes, or whatever else. your brain stores the best amount of information in the first twenty minutes of study, and from then-on (without a break), productivity decreases.

also, to get the maximum out of study, keep going over the material. just reading over it once or twice won't work.

    hope that helps. x

  7. make some fun flash cards, make a song that will help you study, lock yourself in the bathroom and study

  8. Some people find it easier to do their work with music, but there are some who finds music distracting too, you can study in an area of your house where there is not that much activity going on as possible.

  9. I have the same problem like you

.I do crazy much at school,I really study hard there but when I am at home I  always seem to lost myself.

From my experience I think the best way to study at home is study in the room where there isnt anything like computer or television :D

You should also turn your cell phone off when you really want to concentrate on your study
