The cable is outside, how can I repair this without having to pay a guy $300 to run another cable?

I cut the wire with cable cutters, so its a clean cut. I just got on a roll and started cutting everything!...oops.

  1. Go to Radio Shack and get a package of "F" connectors for RG6 coax and a Barrel connector with "F-female" ends.

Buy 1 foot of RG6 coax and have the guys in the shop help you practice attaching "F" connectors onto the 1 ft coax. Keep 2 of the "F" connectors for home.

You may also need a coax stripper.

Go home, strip the ends of the cut wire and attach the "F" connectors.  Use the Barrel connector to join things up.

Then cycle power on your Sat receiver so it re-syncs with the sat. Have it run a test.

If everything is OK, go back outside with pliers and a wrench and tighten the new connectors 1/4 to 1/2 turn past finger tight.  (Loose connectors are the number one cause of problems)

  2. Yea, grumpy mac is probably right....your pretty much going to have to "patch" the part that was cut. So in reality your just going to make a mini cable and place it in the spot where you cut the cable. this site may somehow help you. good luck.

  3. yes you can repair it without changing the whole cable.but you need some basic tool like soldering iron...buy a 40 watts or 60 watts power is good enough. And a foot of solder for electronic work ( not the pumper uses). Dollar shop might have this solder kit and cheap to buy. Also a pair of small wire cutter and long nose plier and a sharp knife. And a roll of electrical tape. All these tools can be found in dollar shop. Cable has 2 conductors, one sits inside the center and other is the metal shield. You need to join them center to center, and shield to shield. Cut off all the power that link to the disk before repair it. twist the broken wire to make a good joint with long nose plier, then solder them well (you need to practice how to solder first with any unwanted wire first before to do the repair). Make sure the sheild does not touch the center wire (cover it with tape), and put many layer of tape outside the cable joint to prevent water get in. Test and done!!!
