  1. There is not alot of time left in the growing season where I live.

Impatiens, Bleeding Heart, and Ferns will all grow well in shady settings.

  2. I would check with your local garden center for your Zone.We can only grow Hostas inside. There are heaps of things you can grow.

  3. Hello Sue ,Long time no see , hope you are O K Hun.

A little info for you and good luck with your new found hobby , I love gardening and have an acre plot .

Begonias do very well in the shade. There basically two types of Begonias, the tuberous rooted which are started from tubers and must be taken indoors over winter and the fibrous rooted ones that are handled as annuals. Either type is usually available at Greenhouses in the spring. Other annuals that do well in the shade are lobelia, coleus, impatiens, mimulus and nemesia, and others. These can usually be prurchased as bedding plants but can be grown in your own home from seed. Perennials such as hosta which is available in several colors, japanese anenome, lily of the valley, ligularia, ladys mantle and astilbe are all considered shade plants. Note that hosta, solomen seal, lilly of the valley, japanese anenome and northern fern do best inheavy shaded areas. Transplant annuals when danger of frost is past. If cool evening temperaturs persist after transplanting, you may choose to cover the plants to reduce the potential of frost damage. Perennials can be planted at any time after the danger of frost is passed.

    See you Sue.      x

  4. You should list your U.S.D.A. hardiness zone with your question. Here's a link to find yours.
