So I've been on anti-depressants for a good while now, but all along, my dad has never really agreed with it. He was very against it actually and initially refused to let me go on it to treat my 8 year long depression and social anxiety problems, which he think I am just exaggerating about. I had no choice but to get my aunt to intervene and have a nice, long talk about it to him about anti-depressants and how they work and all that, he was very stubborn about it, and said natural remedies are best, and that "he's seen how this kind of medication affects some people" (Mind you he's 59 and has many old-fashioned opinions about medicine and thinks how it effects one person effects everyone.) Eventually, he sought of agreed, and I went on them. They helped me, but we recently had an argument again and he questioned why I had to be on the medication (yet again.) I'm sick of him not respecting my opinion. I usually lose my temper with him and we almost always argue intensely about it.I just had a nervous breakdown and smashed the phone onto the floor before. I could certainly just ignore him but that never works. I can't move out right now because of lack of money and my condition at the moment. I'm 21. What the h**l do I do??? I feel so isolated and feel like I have no support.

  1. I am from england and I am also 56 years old and was in the same situation as your father drugs were drugs and real cures for illnesses were natural, that was until I got depressed my self and just couldn't cope with my life,I have been a builder all my life so was used to stress in work and family life, its not possible to handle every situation with natural remedies, eventually I had to go to my doctors for modern medicine PROZAC I have been on it for 6 years and will need to stay on it for the rest of my life but that is no big deal it only effects my temper and with out it it would be impossible to live a normal life so be safe and stay on the drugs for as long as you need them, show your father this answer
