I filed independently without my mom's information? I don't really completely understand EFC except it affects grants and whatnot that I am elgible for.

  1. You will not notice a difference between a 50 EFC and a 0 EFC. EFC stands for expected family contribution and it means that the government has determined that you can afford $50 towards your education for the entire school year.

That number is deceitful at times and you should not count on just paying $50 as you will probably have to take out loans as well.
