  1. The numbers represent how much your Expected Family Contribution is supposed to be. 1630 means that your family is expected to give $1,630 towards your college education. However, in order to be eligible for financial assistance, your college tuition just needs to be higher than your EFC. For example, if your family makes $30,000/yr and your tuition is $40,000; you will still be considered for some type of financial aid.

Typically, FAFSA will tell you if you are eligible for aid.

  2. That is your Estimated Family Contribution, I am not an expert but have been enrolled in school with fin aid since '01 and usually the higher number your efc is the less amount you receive from grants (free money) so the more you need in loans. They also take into consideration what year of a student you are and how much school will cost, and if you have any dependants.
