  1. If you look in your yellow pages, you should be able to find the number for a wildlife rehabilitation center. They will be able to guide you through the steps for caring for the duck.

I honestly dont know what they eat, but Im sure the duckling would love some bread!

  2. Ducks swim the day they are born.

    Take it to the vet.

    This is serious.

Tomorrow, ask your mom to take you to the vet, or if you are old enough, drive yourself.

But anyway, it was a good thing you saved it(:

    [good job]

    NO BREAD!

it's not good for the duck.

fill up your sink and put it in there, but watch it, to make sure it dosen't drown.

I have been researching baby ducks lately and found out that you can buy baby duck food. Your local feed or Ag store should carry it, just ask them for duck starter food. Make sure it says duck on the label since chicken food can contain additives that are dangerous to ducklings. You also need to provide constant water for the little one but be very careful that he does not drown, babies need to learn to swim and depending on his age he may/may not know how yet. Careful to keep him warm and away from other pets. Go to the link i list in my source and read up on them, it has a great deal of useful information. You might also want to consider finding a local wildlife rehaber to take him for you. Good luck!

  3. Ok, this is something you should not be doing yourself. To give him or her the best possible chance, please bring the duckling to wildlife rescue or local veterinarian. :)

  4. take it to an animal shelter/ vet and they will take care of it for free since its not urs

  5. o wow thats not good about the eye u may want to have it looked at. they will eat a lot of things, but go to your local feed store, or farm and home and ask them for unmedicated crumbles to feed a duck (medication is used for chickens, and is not good for ducks). they will know (or should) exactly what u are talking about, and it will be in at least a 40lb bag i'm sure, and it will last u forever. they do need to have a heat lamp to live, or some sort of heat source, but this is what i would suggest. be sure they have plenty of water and warmth, but that they can get out from under the light if they get to hot. (o since there is only 1 a desk lamp will also work). i use a pan of water they can swim in and they can drink(it will get dirty, just change daily). just put the food into an old lid or something, and that will work just fine for food. they can swim, however if u let them swim be sure they have heat as well as can get out of the water, bcz if they got to cold, it can kill it, but they will get out if this happens. i think this should answer your question, and hope u have fun with your duck.

  6. You can get food at the pet store or a country feed store. A crumble for chicks will work.   It is old enough to swim. Ducks are born to swim. It does not necessarily need a large amount of water but does need to be able to get in or out on its own.  The water should always be fresh. Ducks can live just fine without a body of water to swim in but they do need fresh water to drink. I would let the eye alone. If the leach is gone then it should heal on its own.  I cant see the damage so all I can tell you on this is if it does not look better in a couple days or begins to look worse then I would take it to a vet.

You did not say if this was a wild duck or domestic from say a city park.  Here in my town during the summer time the "city" ducks will migrate up into the neighbor hoods several blocks from the lakes and set around in the shade and graze the yards. If it one of these type of ducks then you can later release it back to a group of its kind, if thats what you decide to do.  A wild type could be released the same way but I would study up on that.

  7. You need to take it to a rehabber. Call your local vets and animal shelters to see if they have anyone to reccomend. If it is a wild mallard duckling it is illegal to keep as a pet and with its eye bleeding, it needs the help pf a professional.

You can feed it duck crumble from the farm store. If you only plan on keeping it until you can take it to the rehabber, smash up some cat kibble and that will be okay for it to eat. Do not feed it bread. If ducks are fed to much bread it can kill them and it takes away nutrients from growing ducks, so bad idea!

You can also feed him or her veggies. They love greens and garden veggies.

  8. first contact your local vet, then keep it warm, you can get duck feed from your pet shop, give it plenty of water to drink depending on its size dont make the water too deep as their down can get wet and they will sink, main thing is to keep it warm,my mate found one years ago and she took it to bed with her for the night she has still got it.she put it in a box and put in a hot water bottle.it will eat when its hungery,in the meantime give it some conflakes in water that will do until you get it other food

    good luck
