I was bored and just googled asteroid hitting the earth, after I watched armageddon of course..lol. And I read all these stories about this asteroid that is maybe going to hit earth on march 21st 2014. Do any of you know if there is still a chance it could hit? I wonder if scientists are playing it down so we dont all freak out?? Somebody clue me in!

  1. for , real who cares . let it come. *rolls eyes*

  2. Please use common sense. Do you think ALL scientists who would know about such a thing would ALL get together and decide to keep quiet?

The answer to your question is no.

  3. the asteriod may or may not hit us. the asteroid may strike when the moon is in the way or the asteroid may disintergrate while traveling through the earth's atmoshpere.

  4. Lets hope our goverment declare a public holidy on March 21st, wow..tats a friday :-) But.................

did the scientists mention the place of hit??? I raise this question coz... When I sleep at night, my friends in USA call n say good morning, so... 21st is a split day??? :-D

  5. We just had a near miss the other day:

  6. Yeah, maybe... if 2012 doesn't kill us first ;)

I wouldn't worry about it - I'm trying not to!

  7. It's what's called a 'close approach object' and it's doubtful if it will hit us.  But the exact orbital parameters probably won't be known to the 10 or 12 digits of precision needed until at least another 2 or 3 years of observations have been taken.

Besides, the World is supposed to end on December 26, 2012 ☺

  8. This event has been encouraged by the many sources of prophecy and prediction that the world will end in 2012. From Edgar Cayce, Nostradamus, the Bible Code,  to the Mayan calendar; All of which point to the same date. Not all say specifically how it will end. The very fact that NASA has so many projects planned to take place in the year 2012 that are UNRELATED to a major impact suggests that we know it will be a near miss, but a miss nonetheless.

  9. Yeah, well if they wanted to keep it quite, plainly the first step would be to put the information up on the Inertnet (where it would be impossible to find :-) )

There is ALWAYS a chance the Earth could be hit (in fact, every day the earth is bombarded by meteors, only since most are the size of grains of sand, we only see them at night as 'shooting stars' ) ..

Big ones (size of Manhattan) are called 'impact events' and these come along every 50 million years or so .. the last one was about 65 million years ago .. go figure :-)
