this...He got scaird and buried her alive...knowing that he is mentally retarded would you still have wanted him to get the death penalty?...i will let you know view...i have been around some challenged people lately and i dont think i would put him to death...putting him away is another story..doesnt mean i dont care for that poor little kid

I'm sorry, if he knows wrong from right then he should be punished like every other criminal. I think the sisters living with him at the time and knowing what he was doing to that little girl need the death penalty also.

Actually, where I live (on the Gulf Coast, a couple of hours away from Florida), all this was reported and discussed repeatedly on tv news.

What bothers me the most is that it was also reported that upon his release from prison the first time he did time for a s*x offense against a child, he told authorities that he knew he would do it again, and begged for some kind of help. He was released anyway, and look what happened.

Of course that does not make him any less guilty, but this kind of situation is a problem for all of us - having nothing in place that could have given the help he asked for and prevented Jessica's death, or any other child's death. I don't pretend to know what the best solution is, but the current way of doing things is not working.

they stated this from the very beginning he has a low IQ was how it was put out to the media.I still disagree with his entire family knowing he had issues and knowing that they took up for him while being interviewed by police why was the family never prosecuted for hiding him while the search was going on?they had to know something trailers are freakn small...

That story is just so sad.  The torture that poor little girl must have suffered at that animals hands.  It just makes me ill to think of it.

I really don't believe that he is mentally retarded.  He knew full well what he was doing and that it was wrong.  He buried her alive because he knew what he had done was wrong.  He knows right from wrong and for that reason he shouldn't be able to use the mental disease defense.  I always felt so sorry for her Dad.  He loved that little girl so much and to lose her in such a horrifice way.  I hope he is better now.

Him being retarded does not absolve him of the proper punishment for his crime. When you advocate life in prison instead of the death penalty, you are really showing that you are simply against the death penalty in general.

There are other mentally-challenged folks who don't bury people alive and wait for them to die. Why should this r****d be given special treatment?
