My mother has terminal lung cancer and we have been told that while the chemo is working, she doesn't have that long to live. She finally told me that on March 23, 1973 she had a daughter in Westminster,CO which she gave up for adoption. I would like to find my sister. I know I could use the CI program in Colorado, but it is very expensive and I am a full time student and my mother has no money with her medical bills. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Lyndsay

  1. Try to get as much information as possible from your mother. Be sure to write it down so you will be accurate if you need it in your search.

  2. Use the information Gershom offered  AND

The link to Colorado State's voluntary registry

    http://www.cdphe.state.co.us/certs/about...

Form for the birth mother - or first mom** - to fill out to release information:

    http://www.cdphe.state.co.us/certs/1287A...

From Colorado State's website - information on adoptions in the state, including how to obtain an original birth certificate:

A girl born 3/23/73 in ADAMS County (same county as Westminster) is looking for her birth mother (an Alaskan native?): @  http://www.cousinconnect.com/d/a/125667

    Good luck!

  3. http://www.intelius.com/search-name.php?...

  4. I was born/adopted in Colorado.  I used the CCIS to search.  It took about a month, if time is an important factor, as it sounds like it is in your case.  Definitely try the Voluntary Colorado Registry.  But, otherwise the records can only be opened by a CI.  Some of the Colorado CI's do pro-bono work.  But you would still have to have the court's permission to open the files.  Call them and ask.

My CI was fantastic.  Not sure if it community rules to post her name.  Email me if you want more info.

  5. find out her name and myspace her u will be surprised and hom many people are found through myspace

  6. http://adopteerights.net/nulliusfilius/?... use the searching link at the bottom of the page.

The laws are listed as well. Start with the state registry, join the searching group, get the non id and pursue as many online registries as you can while protecting your vital information and your adopted sisters during the process. Good luck!

Adoption.com also has a HUGE searching registry maybe shes on there already?

    http://www.isrr.net <<< don't pass this by!

  7. What adoption agency was she given to?  Can you request their records?

Contact the Department of Child Welfare in CO and request the adoption record.  You'll need to write them a letter and request release forms.  Many times, there is a fee involved with this (to get my adoption record from Tennessee, the fee is $150.  CO might be different).

Try going on adoption websites or people find websites (there are a lot out there!).  You can make postings such as "Looking for birthchild born on March 23, 1973 in Westminster, CO" and she may respond if she's looking.

It can be a tough thing to find someone like this.  Good luck and I'm so sorry to hear about your mom.

  8. I can't offer any advice, but I certainly wish you the best.  That's an awful lot to deal with on top of dealing with your mother's illness.  My mother died of lung cancer in March of 1991.  I know there are a lot of adoptees on this site.  Hopefully, you will get some good advice about where to start.  Please let us know if you find your sister.

  9. A good start would be obtaining as much information from your mother and do an intelius.com search. Also, try doing a search on Yahoo! directories and profiles, MSN directories and profiles, Myspace, Facebook, any and all major social networking sites. Do a phone derectory search on Dex.

Here are a list of links to start you off. I listed the major places to start looking first.

    Whitepages - http://whitepages.com

    Myspace - http://search.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuse...

    Yahoo! Member Directory - http://members.yahoo.com/

    MSN Member Directory - http://home.services.spaces.live.com/
