I just got a 1080p HDTV and need some help with adjustments.?

Question

I just got a 52" LG HDTV. The broadcast Directv signal definitely does not look HD. Now I have a regular DirecTV box with TIVO and it is hooked up with AV chords. Do I have to upgrade my service or my box or both? Also when I hook up my xbox360 with component chords it looks awesome. I turned the resolution up on my xbox360 to 1080p and WOW what a difference. Would the picture improve if I bought the HDMI hook up for it? Thank you VERY VERY MUCH to anyone who takes the time to read this "Book" and help out!

Broadcast can only be viewed in HD if you are on the correct channel. For example, if your local news is on channel 4, then it's going to look bad. If that network distributes an HD signal, it will be on another channel.

For the satellite channels, you will have to upgrade your service (and maybe your box) for HD channels.

i have the same tv, you have to upgrade your directv to directvhd but its gonna cost you more...that is why i switched to optimum cable... optimum cable hd is free... you should hook it up with HDMI you'll see the big difference and besides there'll be less contraptions... and once your TV is connected to HD cable... you wouldnt want to live your couch!!! and be a couch potato...lol anywayze when i got my hd cable... the sports channel???? wow!!!! its like your even there watchin live.... my friends loved my hdtv especially last feb3 superbowl42!!!!!

Check with DirecTV for advice on this.  You may need a different box or different cable connections (you may not need different cables -- just a different way of connecting them).

You need an HD Direct TV box for 1080i resolution.  This is the only way for Direct TV to give you HDTV on your television.

yeah directtv charges more for their high definition service,so you need to call up and change your box out...
