I just got a 2009 lancer how can you get the dvd player to play while the car is running?

As Dark Knight said before, for safety issues, you cannot watch any kind of DVDs while your car is moving. More if it is an original equipment that was installed from the factory.

On the other hand, it's great to know that you've just got a 2009 model during August. Frankly, I wouldn't have expected this kind of opportunities three months ago.

Congratulations for your new Lancer. I'm sure you are enjoying (pound by pound) one of the best mid-size sports cars ever. If not, the best cost-performance option in the market.

If it's aftermarket, go ask the place that installed it for you.

If it's factory, for safety issues, you cannot view DVDs while car is not in park.

But I believe there are ways to get around it.

It's factory installed and it's meant not to play movies while the car is in motion. It's for your safety. I wouldn't even suggest tampering with it. And besides, it's not worth watching a movie while driving because you're totally distracted and end up not understanding the movie anyway. Yep, distracted both ways...from driving and from the movie.
