Question:

I just got a 7 week old Pug Puppy...?

and we are trying to teach him to like his Kennel at night and when we leave the house, just until he is older. Last night was our first night with him and he went to sleep in the Kennel fine, but woke up 2 times during the night crying. It was not fun to hear him cry all night and we already tried putting a clock in his kennel. How can we get him to not cry at night and to like his Kennel? Also, we have a pug who is a year old, will our new puppy be resentful of the older dog if he sees her out when we leave and not in a kennel?

Thanks so much for any help!

  1. the puppy can not stay in the kennel for longer than its month/years living +1

also the pup should have been given at least one extra week with its mother and littermates

for example your pup is less than 2 months old - the pup can only stay in the kennel for 3 hours

he/she needs to be let out to go potty....its a puppy and may or may not sleep through the night

he/she is going to have to get used to sleeping in the kennel but just know that he will not be able to just "like" it...he has to get used to it

it may wonder why as i will...why? because its a pup and will have accidents why would you want to come home to pee and p**p everywhere? please crate train your pup...and make sure to give your 1 year old pug more attention so that he/she wont become jealous

  2. Seven weeks is a bit young for a pup to have left his littermates and that may be part of the problem. Puppies that age will need to potty about every three hours until they gain better bladder and bowel control. Your pup is likely trying to let you know he has to go to the bathroom. Set your alarm clock at three hour intervals so you can wake up the pup to go potty before he wakes up on his own. As he gets older, you can lengthen the times between outtings.

  3. ohkay, dont put a clock in his kennel.no offense, but that's just stupid, put the dog kennel in your room at nite with you if its not already there.and to have him likeit more,go buy a toy,and have him get used to it,and love it,and while your tring to get him in his kennel, throw it in there.and then he will go after it.and then im sure he will get pre-occupied and want to stay in there.and make sure you feed him,and then outside or wherever to go to the bathroom.thats all i got to say.=) your welcome and good luck=)

  4. He's too young to sleep through the night. He has to go potty. Wake up and take him outside when he cries to go.

By 5 months he should then be old enough to hold it all night.

  5. We go our dog at about 8 weeks, she has slept in the crate ever night since.  When we first go her, we us to put her in the crate a few times during the day and then let her out.  She cried at first, but you just have to let her work it out. I wouldn't let her out until she got quite. She got me idea after the first few time.    Puppies sleep allot, so we would let her take her naps in the crate. but we would stay close by.  When we would go to sleep, we would put the crate on the night stand next to our bed; so she could see us.  We never let her in our bed... She understood that the crate was for sleeping, and when she got in the crate she would go to sleep.  Now she is 10 months old and when I say "crate" she knows it time to go to bed... NO muss no fuss...  During the day when we are not home our dog has full run of the kitchen, we put up a baby gate and she use to go on the paper that we put down.. but she holds in now...  Consistency is the Key.. You have go to stay consistent.

  6. he is too young.  have him sleep with you!!  If it's no fun for you? think of what that p**p pup is going through!!!!

of course it will be mad if he sees the other dog out!!  he'll wonder why he can't be out.

  7. you cannot seperate him like that. He wants to near you. He ws just spearated from his family! I own two pugs and they both cried during the night. They are scared.

Yes the younger pup will be frustrated with the other pug out and about.
