I just got a Dell Studio 17 computer. How do I use the web cam mic for recording things for class?

I can not figure out how to use the mic. I have classes online and I need a mic for one. My computer has a web cam and a mic and I also have my own mic but how do I get either of them to work so I can record things to send to my instructor?

In order to record your voice using your mic, you can try to use the inbuilt sound recorder. Click on start->all programs->accessories->entertainment->so... recorder.
