I just got my retainer on the top today. When I swollow my spit, i put my tongue on the top of my mouth and the back of the retainer(the plastic part) seems like its moving alittle but the wire part is still tight...is it supposed to? Also...How long will I have a lisp?

  1. I remember what it was like when I first got my retainer... of course it was back in the stone age!

The retainer will conform somewhat to the shape of your mouth, or your mouth will conform to the shape of the retainer! Either way, it will settle in after you wear it a while. As to the lisp, the longer you wear it and the more you speak while wearing it, the easier it will get to speak more clearly.

Just remember, the worst part of the braces is over and you're on the last leg to a beautiful smile.

    Good luck.

  2. The best thing to do is turn on the radio or IPOD,  and sing out loud to your favorite music,   which will teach your tongue quicker how to work while sharing it's space.    In a day or two people won't even be able to tell you have one in.

The looseness is OK as long as it doesn't get bigger.   The wire is the part that holds your teeth,  and if it's tight you should be OK.
