  1. The best you could do is take 2 Motrin pills every 4 hours

    It works wonders

  2. I've gotten a new chain about every two weeks for almost the entire 1.5 years I've had braces...IT SUCKS, they hurt.  However, the pain does recede and your teeth adjust to the current chain.  Be careful what you eat as your teeth are sensitive, maybe eat softer things like a sandwich and stuff until you feel the pain begin to go away and then eat some harder things.  Other than that, there's nothing you can really do, although my dentist did give me this gel that I can put on my teeth they said it prevents decay of teeth but on the package it says its for reducing sensitivity of teeth.  You could ask about that.

  3. Try orajel and if the advil isn't helping try a different type of painkiller such as Aleve.

  4. Oh, I hated the chain!  I had one briefly, and it was the bane of my existence.

You could try some Orajel, which is a topical pain-relief gel that you spread over your gums.  It may help some.  It's available at any pharmacy, or in the pharmacy section of any grocery store.

Other than that, unfortunately, as you probably know, you've mostly just got to wait it out.  It will stop hurting in a few days, as hard as that may be to believe now.  Eat lots of Jell-o and pudding and white rice and smoothies... soft, easy-to-chew foods that feel good on your teeth.

    Feel better soon!
