i got my bird about a month ago he's 18. i a have food, vitamins for the water, and the bone thingy for calcium. the guy who sold him to me didn't give very in depth care instructions. so i'm sort of at a loss. does it need to go the vet for special shots. basically i'm asking what do i do?

  1. It sounds like you are doing a great job.

You can take him to the vet for a check up, I don't know of any shots that they might need but if there are your vet will know about it. One thing that is very important is that you make sure to clean the cage a minimum of once a week. It's better if you clean it more then once a week though. Clean all the toys and food dishes at the same time as the cage.

For food you should have a feed that has a mix of seeds (sunflower, millet, oat groats, etc.). The brand that I like is "Sun Seed" and the feed is called "Vita Cockatiel". Cockatiel's can eat everything humans SHOULD eat. Give your 'Tiel lettuce and tomatoes and things like that.

As for making him more friendly I would consult an Animal behaviorist.

  2. okay check out this website . www.cockatielcottage.com that should tell you everything you need to know . good luck .
