Question:

I just got a laptop, what do I do now?

I just purchased the HP Pavilion Laptop with AMD Turion and wondering what the next step is. The OS is Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. In general, I'm asking what I should install (i.e. anti-spyware, certain applications/programs, etc) and do (remove certain start-up programs, etc) before bringing this baby to college. (For example, I'm going to install the Microsoft Office soon). Is there anything I can do to optimize the performance?

  1. Install Microsoft Office 2007.

Download and Install Advanced Windows Care.

Buy an Anti-Virus software(Kaspersky or ZoneAlarm is preferable).

Just be careful, there are two problems you already have:

    1. AMD processor

    2. Windows Vista

Both of these contribute to frequnt PC Crashes.

Dont install more than one AV or Firewalls, which would reduce performance.

DONT DONT go for Norton, its going to make your PC a turtle.

    That's it. Have fun!

  2. It should already have lots of protection.  You should make a backup disc incase you end up getting a virus or something.  Then just install things you need, like Office, word, whatever.  You can go through and delete the things you won't use.  It's really up to you because it is your's and everyone likes different things.

  3. NOTHIN U CAN DO IN VISTA if u try instalin any unknown software it will result in unexpected shutdown so install only licensed software cause i'm also usin the same OS and suffered many times

  4. im sure it came with all the protection it already needs. so......i suggest you test it with a lil......happy time before you bring it to school

    i suggest xvideos . com ^.-

  5. first thing to do. change your operating system! linux is way better than vista or anyother microsoft operating system. go search for ubuntu.. or suse..

    anyway..

    do these:

get avast antivirus or kaspersky (just in case)

don't go to p**n sites or download unnecessary applications as vista uses so much memory and resources.. you might really end up changing your os.. just like what happened to me. dont run sidebar, dont use aero to optimize performance.. go search for tweaks in the net.. then download office tools and your good

  6. The laptop already has it own anti-virus program but it is only for a trial period. When the trial period ends you will have to buy the full program. I urge you to do so. You can never have enough protection on you personal laptop. As for optimizing the performance, make sure you delete you internet cookies at least once a week and delete you temporary internet files at least once a month this is one of the main reasons why laptops sometimes run so slow. By doing these three simple steps you laptop will continue to run like new for a long time.
