I just got a new baby Kitten and my Cat is really upset. Any advice?

I know it is natural for my cat to be upset that there is a new baby kitten in the house, but I'm worried my Cat will ignore me forever. My Cat used to sleep right next to me, all night long, purring in my ear. Now, she sits on the bookshelf, behind the books, all day and night. I give her all the kisses and hugs (and expensive food) that I can, but she won't come around.

How long will it take?

And, is my Cat suffering...?

  1. how did you introduce them? your cat will come round it will just take time you sound liek your doing the right thing =] also your cat is nt suffering more had her nose put out of joint so her pride is hurt funny things cats :)

  2. Your cat will come around. My cats did this to me when I brought a puppy home, one of them stayed mad at me for 3 months. Now they are both ok. It just takes time. Cats hold grudges for a long period of time. Good luck :)

  3. WHEN you introduce a kitten to an older cat you should do this....( and i found that it worked very well for me) Pick a room in the house.Set up some food, water, something soft for kitties to lay on, and a clean litter box.(I used my bathroom for the reason it was easier to clean up messes) Then take the older cat, or the kitten and put it in that room only, and shut the door. Next you let them smell each other through the door and switch the cats up every few hrs or so.I would do this while i went to work and then switch them when i came home.(Usually the kitten went into the bathroom while i was out for safety reasons.)  This will allow them to get used to one anothers sents and smells. Then after about a week of doing this let them interact for an hour at first, then two and so on. meanwhile still doing the room thing. After about two weeks or how ever long it takes for them to adjust, your older cat won't be too mad because she'll be more used to the idea that there is another kitty in the house. Then eventualy they'll be best friends. You just have to let them work it out at they're own pace. she's probly trying to back off alittle bit now because she wants you and the kitten to know who's boss so don't be sad it'll all come together soon just try this technique out. A lady from the pound told me to do this and its a surefire way to get the ball rolling. oh and get some toys for the both of them to play with when they're together it'll be a great bonding experience!GOOD LUCK!

  4. Hey who ever said that only people can be jealous huh?

cats are basically loners and live in their territory alone ( your House)

and dont really like it when another feline overlapps or completely claims ther territory and will fight for it

in this case shes trying to make you feel bad wait for a while and shell come around

  5. I'm goin through the same thing right now. My cat is the same way..very jealous since I got my kitten a month ago. He was awful the first few weeks but is getting SO much better now. I've been putting them together in the same room for about 2 hrs a day and I stay there and pet them both. My kitten doesn't even care about my older cat but he will sit there and growl at her which is progressivly decreasing. So I suggest forcing ur cat to come out and b in a room with the kitten for an hr or 2 a day and each day it will get better. Ur cat isn't suffering..she just isn't used to it and has to adjust :)

  6. Your cat could just be jelous, make sure you dont play with the kitten in front of her.  Oh and this happened to me when I got my new puppy, my cats were doing the same thing, but eventually, they went back to normal, your cat may just need some time to get used to things.

  7. give a little more attention to your cat so she knows shes still number one, and doesn't get jealous and try to hurt kitty.
