I'm not sure how old she is, but she's young. This is the first night, and she's making a lot of squeaking noises. I'm not sure if this is because this is her first night somewhere other than the pet store, or if something is wrong. The sound just makes me so sad. Is this normal or is something wrong?

  1. Chinchillas often make many strange sounds, this is just their way of communicating, she may be a little scared but she will most likely always make squeaking and chucking noises in the night considering they're nocturnal.  Don't worry this is no reason for concern!  Hope this helps!

  2. It is okay.  Don't worry.  I have a Chinchilla.  It is her way of communicating.  She is just scared and has to get used to her new surroundings.  Mine made a lot of strange noises at first.  He is very skittish even now but very friendly.  Just give her a day or two to adjust.  You have to earn her trust.  I know, it is a strange sound but don't worry.

  3. I know the feeling, I have had my chinny for several months now and he still makes a calling sound at night most of the times in the early morning when I am awake on the weekends.  This usually means, for him, to let him out of his cage.  I got out of my bed once to check on him and he was just staring at me.  I then tried to get back in bed after I turned the lights out and he started making that calling sound again.  That time I let him out.  That is just his way of letting me know to get up and let him out to play. ... kinda sweet :)
