  1. You could transfer them if your 2 computers are networked and you share the folders. I'd just put them on the external drive thou because thats one of the thingd an external drive is for. To save data you dont wanna lose if your C drive fails or to keep from filling up the C drive. Then you can copy and paste any tunes vids etc you want onto your new rig and still have them safely backed up on the external drive.

  2. just transfer them to the external hard drive and you can access the files in both computers

  3. Just plug your external drive into either the Firewire or USB port, create folders for your data, such as Music, Video, Photos, etc, then copy them to the external drive. No need to first place them on your new systems hard disk, that would be too much work, and it still clutters up the new drive in how the Disk Management and the File System work when "deleting" items.

They don't actually delete anything. They simply mark the area where a file is stored as "Available Space", but the "deleted" file still sits there until it is overwritten by new data. This can leave file fragments because the new data written over it will not be the exact same size. So, it sort of trashes the new drive. It works out in the end, but why go to an extra step that will leave them there after you are finished?

Good luck, enjoy your new toys, and have a nice day.

  4. no transfer them to the external hard drive so you save disk space on the new computer hard drive which contain the operating  system that need disk space to give good performance and don't slow down your computer .

If the old computer in a good condition and you are sure it will not go down keep them so you have extra space on your external hard drive .
