  2. Well...i just got a new hamster a few days ago and i now have 2 but Phantom (old ham) just bites me all the time and my new one, Blueberry Muffin lets me hold him but if i pick him up he is all wiggley so i say just hold him by letting him get in your hand..

  3. It should just take time. All animals are nervous for the first little while. With lots of treats and gentle handling, he will learn to love you.

My hamsters never ran over to me, but they didn't object to being picked up, either. After a little while, they learn to trust you and become very fun pets!

To make him more comfortable to being picked up, **DO NOT** chase him around the cage with your hands. This goes for every small pet. It just frightens them and makes them anxoius. Instead, move BOTH hands very slowly towards him, and gently scoop him up. Don't be afraid to back them into a wall; you're not cornering him, he could easily get away if he wanted to! It just causes lss worry, and they won't be so intimidated by the whole idea of being picked up.

  4. cup it in your hand so the hamster  will be feel safe

  5. Okay well I to just got my hamster in June and he needs a ton of care and even tho he wont adapt easialy you have to try to pick him up and play with him, he will resist but after a while he will get better, my hamster is just adapting and he will let me pick him up and everything. It does take time and patients. Good Luck ! :)

  6. my directions to tame your hamster in 2 weeks!!!

    1. leave him alone for 2 days, talking to him and saying his name every time you pass his cage.

    2. get a wet peice of bedding, rub it in your fingers (to make yourself sme\ll friendly) and give it a chunk of carrot between the bars of the cage. remember to talk to it. do this for one day.

    3. repeat step 2 for another day.

    4. do the same thing as step 2, except feed by putting treat in the bottom of your hand and placing it in the bottom of the cage. do this for 1 day.

    5. stroke him while he's eating his treat, feed him treats and stroke him once a day for 3 days.

    6. while you are stroking him, lift him up. do this for 3 days.

    7. you can try this WITHOUT the treat. say its name, talk to it, then put your hand in front of its face.

*********** remember hamsters cant see well. if you just give them a treat randomly wihtout talking to them, they will get scared. always let him know you're there by talking to them. do this before you approach him, every time, even after you have tamed it.

    HOPED I HELPED! -hamster.

  7. With a hamster, a dog or cat or any animal, the trick is to put some of their favorite food inside your hand, let them smell your hand and then eat out of your hand. Do not waorry, they will not bit you. You can teach them trust this way! Good Luck!

  8. First of all, you need to leave him alone! If you JUST got him, the poor guy will be terrified out of his mind! Imagine being taken away from evreything you know, and put into a completely new environment, and now someone you do not know is trying to touch you. He's going to be afraid of you because he is overwhelmed. In the wild, when something unknown is around, he will immediately think it is a predator and try to hdie from it. Right now, since he doesn't know you yet, you are the predator. But all he needs is to calm down by himself.

Give him at least a week without touching him at all. Food, water and clean him, but do nto try picking him up. In this time, he will sniff around his cage and learn that it is safe and his new home. After he feels secure in his cage, only then should you touch and hold him.

The more you handle him, the more used to you he will become. Hamsters are not social animals, so they won't have any genuine interest in you. What you can do to convince him that you are his friend, is offer plenty of treats. When you start touching/holding him, do so for short times, and right after you put him back in the cage, give him a treat. He will associate being handled with treats, and will like it, maybe to the point of coming up to you expecting a treat. But this would only happen after he really trusts you. Just keep up the regular handling, preferbly at the same time every day.

  9. I have found that if I just set my hand in my gerbil's cage they wil climb on, but if I chased them around they will run away.
