  1. Not all laptops come with the Modem Port.

You will need to go to an electronics store and purchase a modem for the type of service you desire. You will connect the modem to your laptop via a usb port.

  2. If the computer was custom made, you would have to select to put in a 56k modem port (dial up). If not, then it just won't be included.

Since you don't have the 56k modem port, you cannot use dial up unless you run the dial up through a router. However doing this will just slow it down more.

You could get a Phone line to eTHERNET converter, if that exists.

If no help there, you simply cannot use dial up on the laptop.

  3. You can add a 56K dial modem very easily, and they are cheap because few people use them anymore.  Hint, buy one with the installation software and driver

  4. I would suggest a case of beer and I will bring a pizza and we can nut it out together.

  6. USB dial-up modem ?

I prefer the case of beer though !

Almost every laptop today comes with an ethernet connection but the ones with built in modems are decreasing rapidly.

  7. You can try to get an Express port modem or they might actually make USB modems...though i have never heard of such an animal.

What laptop doesnt come with a dial up modem port though?  i'm actually curious, because i've never seen one.  Even though its antiquated tech most laptops (and honestly all i have ever worked with) still come with that port.

Hope this helps, and if so i demand beer! ;)

  8. If the laptop is a new product, they may have excluded a phone modem port from their design as this type of connection is quickly being replaced by other means such as cable and ADSL. Although you could purchase this product, which is in theory a USB to Dial-up port :

  9. If the laptop has a PCMCIA slot, you can purchase a modem card and install it. If not, there are USB modems that can be attached.
