I just got a new mp3 player and want the battery to last long...?

Do I keep charging it (so keep it as close to full charge as possible as often as possible) or do I charge it, then let it drain before I charge again, which will lead to longer battery life?

Battery life will be determined by the number of charge/discharge cycles. To get most of your battery's life, charge it when it is fully discharged. When you charge, always charge it full.
