  1. This usually means he is not getting the vitamins and nutrients that he needs therefore he sees his f***s as having nutritious value and eat it as a "snack." Dog's are also often attracted to undigested food in the f***s and that entices them to eating it. To correct:

"Add enzyme supplements to their food, such as meat tenderizer (from the supermarket), papaya extract (a natural enzyme available at health food stores) or products from pet supply stores especially designed to help dogs digest. Mix the enzyme powder in each meal, and let it sit for 15 minutes prior to feeding it to your pet. This should eliminate the presence of anything they view as "good" in their stool. Make sure not to feed your pet any human food or table scraps."

    EDIT:

    Update to more details:

You may want to check with your vet to see what they recommend you feed him and you may want to try a different dog food brand (compare the vitamins and nutrition facts with what you are currently feeding him). However, there are also vitamins and supplements for dogs such as Dinovite and Nupro. Always check with your vet to be sure it is ok that your dog is given vitamins and supplements, but it should be fine considering your dog does not have any health issues.

  2. I like pugs.

I was watching this show on Animal Plant, believe the show was called 'It's Me or The Dog', the peoples dog ate her poo also, think it was a lab, but not possitive on the type of dog. The dog trainer said after the dog has ate it's own dog food, was to give her pinapple. Believe the trainer person said if the dog tries to eat its own poo after eating the pineapple it will leave a nasty taste in the dogs mouth to where she wouldn't want to eat anymore. Can't quote it but it was something in that lines.

Beneful is a brand of dog food. Personally I like Hills Science, but that's my preference.

This link also mentions pinapple http://ezinearticles.com/?Yuck!-My-Dog-E...

  3. Usually a sign of something not being processed properly in his diet - so no matter if you are feeding a $10 a bag food or a $50 a bag food the dog isn't getting what he needs.

Also for some it is just a nasty habit they picked up usually from the dogs around them - like his dam who would do it to keep the 'den' clean.

Some people have had good luck with adding canned pumpkin (not the pie filling which has added spices) to the diet as it has more fiber and can aid in digestion.  Me I just never leave the dog alone in the yard and clean up immediately on the rare occassion we've had one here.

  4. Actually, although it seems gross to us humans, this is a pretty common canine behavior and is actually learned from the puppies momma!

Momma dogs keep the nest clean by eating the pee and p**p of their tiny puppies. As the pups grow, they tend to mimic this. Many puppies forget all about this behavior once they leave their canine family, but others continue to do it.

Keeping him on a leash (recommended even when going on a potty break in your back yard), and picking up the p**p as soon as it's done, so that you keep your property p**p-free, are the first and most obvious answers. A sharp leash correction, accompanied by a firm "NO" will get your message across, it just takes time.

There are food supplements that you can add to your dogs food that will make his p**p taste very bitter to him, and you don't need to go to your vet for them. You can find them through the webpage listed below.

A puppy that eats it's own p**p, is just as likely to try to eat another dogs' p**p (or the cat's etc.), and this can pose significant health hazards, so it's important to curb this habit asap.

you can find out more about dealing with this p**p eating behavior in the article below. Good luck!

  5. Take him to your vet - the doctor can give him pills that make his p**p taste bad.

(of course poo tastes bad - but dogs do that because of their survival instinct)
