Question:

I just got a potted tulip to put on my desk, at work. I work in an office. How often do I water the tulips?

I keep getting mixed messages from the internet. One said once a day, the florist that I bought it from said to water 3 times a week. I'm not sure which to follow. There are about 5 buds in the pot. They have flowered but are not open yet, you can see the colour of the flowers though.

I work in an air conditioned office with typical fluorescent office lights and my desk does not have direct sunlight on it, though I am 1 second away from a window.

Can someone please tell me how many times to water it and whether I should put it near the window, every now and then. Overall, how best to keep it alive as long as possible.

Thanks.

  1. I often find that i have no cares at all when i get the wife to put tulips on my organ when at home.LOL........

  2. a good rule to follow for any indoor plant is put your finger on the compost if its dry then water, if your finger comes off with specks of compost then don't, try and keep out of drafts, also stand in a container and water from bottom............ good luck!

  3. Potted tulips should be kept moist but not soggy, a small amount of water everyday or every other day...don't put it in direct sunlight or near any heat (radiator/heat vents)

it should do very well on your desk.

Tulips are an annual plant, once stem and leaves die out, (don't remove the leaves until they are completely limp/dry) you can store the bulbs in the fridge (keep away from fruits and veggies) and plant them outside in the fall or in the spring after last frost, they will come up every year.
