Question:

I just got a surround sound system, is it normal for the rear speakers to play very little sound?

I'm playing a stereo signal (off an ipod) and I can barely hear anything out of the rear channels (just center, front and sub). The receiver has a test mode, and I can hear the tones just fine in the back so I'm thinking the rear channels don't do much on regular stereo inputs but i'm not sure, so let me know! Thanks!

  1. You won't hear much out of the rears with music because it is stereo (2 channels). If you switch your receiver sound setting to all channel or 5 channel stereo (or what ever it is called on your receiver), it play in all speakers.

  2. i dont think a ipod can output 5 chanels, just left+ right

  3. It depends on what you play, music normally isn't encoded with Dolby Surround information (though some is).

This site has some Pro Logic encoded examples in .WAV format you can try.
