I just got a ticket in MI for impeding traffic. It is a zero point violation, will this effect my insurance?

I thought I was in a turn lane, but that was not the case. I was not familiar with the area. The officer understood that I was not familiar with the area and gave me a ticket for impeding traffic, one of the more expensive fines; but zero points. I am wondering if this will effect my insurance rates.

  1. I suggest you call your insurance agent because these things vary by state. But because you said it was a zero point violation, I would guess that nothing would happen to you.

  2. Well, the answer to your question is "maybe" it will affect your insurance rates.  This depends entirely on the insurance company you are with.  Most companies do not care about points on your license, they simply consider this a minor moving violation.  With moving violations, the number of violations you have could affect this decision by the company greatly.  If you have no other violations, you are probably OK and will see little if any change.

If you have multiple violations, this could be the straw that breaks the camel's back so to speak.  Some companies say if you have more than two moving violations they increase your rates.  Some companies, however, have a list of the severity of the moving violation and make a determination from there.

    Good luck to you!

  3. naaa insurance only deals with accidents not with tickets your good dont worry

  4. How is your current record?  If fairly clean (as in no tickets in several years), you should be able to mail in your fine and apply for court supervision.  If so, your insurance company will never know.
