and I also have direct TV, But I don't have a HD receiver how can watch HD TV? If I unplug the direct TV shouldn't the TV automatically get Fox or NBC? They are in HD right? No channels are showing up.

  1. I too have direct TV. If you can call them and ask if you are eligible to receive and upgrade to HD service for free

if you are.....they will come to your home and install a new satellite and give you a new HD receiver, absolutely free =]

however if you are not them of course you will have to pay for this service done to your home.

after this you will need to purchase the "extra" HD channels provided.....but if you see that you don't need these channels such as discovery channel HD, or national geographic HD....etc then do not purchase it.

however your free Hd service come with free Hd channels such as ABC HD and NBC HD, FOX HD ESPN HD and local channels you might watch everyday.

so don't forget to ask them about thier free HD installation service and getting a free HD receiver.....it is well worth it

have a good time with your new HD service!!! =]

  2. You need to unscrew the coax for the satellite and s***w in a coax for an over the air antenna.  Then use autotune from the tv's menu setup to tune in the local channels available in your area.  You will pick up a couple of stations in HD that way.  You need the whole HD upgrade, including new dish and receiver from Directv to get HD from the satellite.  When/if you have HD satellite, the receiver connects to the tv using an HDMI cable, freeing up the antenna port on the tv, which you can attach an over the air antenna to permanently for if your directv goes out for some reason, like China blows a satellite out of the sky for target practice, for example.  You can also split your antenna signal also in to the directv receiver and use the receiver's autotune to tune in the over the air stations - they will show up on the directv guide just like the channels from directv - I get more channels than directv carries and offers, so this gives me all of the local stations too through the satellite receiver - and yes there is some overlap, but the local over the air channel numbers are in bold.

  3. you should. but you need a special antenna. you will have to ask your..."local sales representative" lol about it.
