I just got elastic bands yesterday (braces)

Question

I have had braces for 6months and yesterday i got elastic bands to help bring my teeth back.. They are soo painful and i can hardly eat, in your experience how long was it until that pain wore off. Is it just the same as when you first get braces like the amount of time it takes for the pain to wear off??

they will hurt until the teeth have finally moved into the position the Ortho wants them in im afraid sweets.  Just take a painkiller if its too unbearable.  you will get used the sensation and after a while it doesnt hurt as much as its more of a funny feeling.  it will be worth it.

yup, those elastics sure can do something to your teeth, ecspecially after youve just had an appointment! my ortho told me i could just skip wearing the elastics for 3 days or so, until the pain from my teeth went away then i could jsut wear the elastics.

this really helped. because evn tho when i started to put the elastics back on, there was still pain but nothing like before!

since you JUST started with the elastics, this will be okay for you to do, but for your next appt and so on, only do this if the pain is really unbearable...cause once you start the treatment for religning your jaw it takes  awhile and its tricky process...so you dont wanna regress back to the state it was originally in!

depending on how they got you to wear them, give it 2-4 days.

i found it took about 5-7 days to ware off but wile i was eating i took my bands off.

You get used to them after a few days and they don't hurt so bad. It pretty much is just like when you first get braces, because they are designed to move your teeth. Once your teeth are moving a bit, the bands won't pull as hard and it won't hurt as much. But whatever you do, DON'T "take a break" and leave the bands out for a while. Use them exactly as your orthodontist tells you to, so you can stop using them as soon as possible.

I started off with bands on my teeth when i was 7 until i was about 13 then i just went onto standard train tracks. They do hurt and its just until your teeth settle down.

You just need to have softer foods until the pain goes. Take some paracetamol to help if it gets too bad.

I don't know. I have the exact same scenario as you. I've had my braces on for like, 7 months, and I got elastics yesterday. I can open my mouth a full 1/2 inch! lol    

I want to see what the other answers are.

I had the same I could hardly eat, hmm...it might have taken a week or less that my mouth was used to it, but yeah every mouth and every condition of the teeth is different...so it could take longer or lesser for you.

I had elastic bands with my braces

It feels like you can't open your mouth and it just pings back shut doesn't it?

Mine didn't hurt for that long, but different elastic bands are different thicknesses, so like stronger or whatever :]

They won't hurt for that long, and just remember how amazing your teeth will be afterwards :D

Oh, and don't eat with them in!

Take them out, then after you finish eating, put new ones in (:
