No, you cannot file for authorization to work.  That is not allowed for people on student visas.  Your citizen-spouse must first apply for a spousal visa for you.  You may need to return to your own country since you were here on a student visa.  Your spouse must prove sufficient income and assets to support you and guarantee a $30,000 bond.  If you spouse is also a student, your student visa is void, and your spouse cannot get you a spousal visa.  You have done things backwards and have some problems here.

If you are approved for a spousal visa, you will need authorization to work, and if approved, you can apply for a Social Security number, then start looking for a job.  But you are finished with school, at least for now.

Here's how it's done....

Your American spouse files I-130, I-864 and G-325A with the USCIS.

You file I-485, I-131, I-765 and G-325A with the USCIS.

You file them all at the same time, in the same envelope.

You can stay while everything's processed.  You do not need an attorney.

In about 90 days, or less, you'll get your work permit.

In about 6 months you'll have your interview.

In about a year you'll get your green card.

The total cost to file is $1,365.

If you want to stay in US and to get green card, your spouse should file I-130 for you and you should file I-485, 131 and 765 which is EAD, work permit, all together.
