  1. Beardie tank should replicate his native Australia as much as possible; 10-12 hours 90-100 degrees and then cool to about 70-75 degrees for night if your home stays around that temp then you should be fine, if not you will need to purchase a 70 watt night light usually blue not red( its hard for them to sleep with the red) and the undertank heater should always be on. What I did was hooked up everything to a timer you can purchase at Walgreen's ( what you use for Christmas trees) and have it turn of the heat lamp after 10-12, if you need the night lamp then just chage then bulb at night.

    Hope this helps!

  2. Firstly, congrats on your new addition to the family!

Yes.  To put it very basic - switch all the light on when the sun is up and switch them off when the sun is down.   Only thing that stays on is the heating pad.

This is what I do and my beardie is very happy, responsive and healthy.

  3. i always did i would just keep their heat pad on hope that helps

  4. My daughter and I have had a beardie for 4 years and we keep a red night time bulb on.  Basking bulb during the day..red bulb at night.  Reptiles can't see red, so it doesn't disturb their sleep.  It just keeps them warm.

  5. lights should go out at night. heat should stay on 24/7

  6. You need to turn off all your lights when it's bed time for your beardie.  They should get 12-14 hours of light each day.  You can get timers to help you with that (they're cheap at any hardware store).

If you're worried about it being too cold at night, you can get a ceramic heat emitter.  They get really nice and warm and they last a long time, too.  You can also get an under-tank heat pad, but they're not as good and it's hard to regulate the temperature.  Whatever you do, do NOT get a heat rock.  Beardie's heat sensors are on their backs, so they can't tell if they're getting too hot or not.

  7. Put the reptile light on a timer. Have it come on around the same time the sun come up and go off at sundown. Adjust it for the season of the year.

If you're using a heat light instead of ceramic or underneath pad, turn it on about an hour after the UVB and off a few hours later. You don't want the enclosure to get too hot. Use a thermometer and don't go higher than around 80 degrees. You can turn it on again in the afternoon for a few hours, but turn it off when the reptile light goes off.

  8. lights g out at night. Heat (I.E. heat pad) must only stay on if your house drops below 65 at night.
