I just got my car back fron Pep Boys and they said i need a valve job they want $1000.00?

how much shoul a valve job cost on a 1989 mazda rx-7 ? i think 1000 sounds expensive they must think im stupid.

well, given the fact that a rotory engine has no valves, something is very wrong here. i would go back and  get a second opinion but keep that information for a little bit. if they continue this idea, ask him where he got this diagnosis from. then ask him if he has ever torn an rx7 engine apart. i think that you should be going some where else for a second opinion or visiting the bbb because of this. something is fishy here.

In case your incapable of reading Car Guys' sarcasm, he's right. $1000 sounds reasonable. I would get a second opinion though just because I don't trust Pep Boys.

The rotary doesnt have valves, I definetly wouldnt trust pep boys, they're mostly hacks

yep RX7=rotary engine=NO VALVES

My BS meter is going off since you know (or should know) as well as I do there are no valves in a 13B rotary engine.

Mazda's were equiped with either rotary engines or piston engines so at this point I'd say yours is a piston job.

But more to the point you don't say anything about the car or its performance,so how are we to say you even need a valve job.

I once got ripped off on a non-done valve job so I know how you can feel at this moment.

Mine was a long time ago when I was young and dumb.

rip off you could find a remanufactured engine for about 12-1500 dont trust the chain places like pep boys or good year or any of the others go to a small shop where its some old dude thats fixin cars that cares about building a loyal customer and not just his pockets

I have a 89 honda and i had to have a head job done ,but the head was bad so i had to buiy a used head then have it repaired .It cost me right at a $ 1000. bucks and i did the labor so i think your getting a good deal.

I am suprised they didn't just do it for free. I wouldn't pay more than 25 dollars parts and labor.
