I just got my computer reformatted & screen resolution won't go to it's original size. What's wrong?

My computer crashed & I just got a new hard drive & got it reformatted with windows vista [it was windows vista before, too]. Now the screen resolution won't go bigger than 1024x768 & i know it used to be larger than that. Everything also looks kinda blurry at 1024x768. Does anyone know what's wrong or how I can fix it? Could I update my video card or something?

I called the place where I got it fixed & the guy said that it could be fixed if I put in one of the CDs that my laptop came with, but I have an HP pavilion dv6000 & it didn't come with any disks. So he told me to contact the manufacturer & ask them to send me some. -- would that work & would they charge me?

  1. You need to download the driver for the graphics card.  The one they installed is generic and doesn't support the higher resolution of your card.

Could be the monitor as well.  If the graphics card thinks you have a generic monitor that won't handle the higher resolution, it won't give you the option to set it higher.  Reinstall the drivers for both.  You can get them from the HP website for free.

  2. Try this

    Right click my computer

    Click properties

    Click hardware tab

    Click Device manager

Click the + at Display adapters, highlight and click uninstall

Restart computer to allow windows to reinsall the display adapter

  3. You probably need to get video drivers.  HP's website should have the driver you need.  Alternatively, you could go to the video card manufacturer's website and download it from there.

  4. It sounds like you don't have a graphics driver installed. You need to find out which graphics card you have, and then download the driver from the manufacturer's website. To find out your graphics card name and model, go into Control Panel, double-click on System and the click the Hardware tab at the top of the System window. Then click on 'Device Manager'.

Inside the Device Manager window click on the + next to graphics adaptors and it'll come up with your graphics card's name.

    I hope this helps!

  5. They won't charge you, but it's much faster to go to http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw...

and download them yourself (depend on your internet connection)
