Okay, I just got my first job. I did training all week, and don't work the rest of the week. They put up the new schedule at 4 on Saturday.

My question is do I go in and check, or can I call and ask?

And what verb-age would I use? I'm not good coming up with things to say, so help would be much appreciated!

BTW, I work in a diner in case that has any significance!

  1. Depends on the place really.  Different people do it differently.  Call and ask which way they do it there.  If they expect you to come in and look yourself; they'll tell you.  If not, they'll let you know when you call what your first shift is.

All the best to you on your first job.

  2. I would go in at 4.30 and check next week's schedule. then if there are any problems you can ask about them on the spot. Then during next week , ask your immediate superior if it is OK to phone in for next week's rota if you are not working on Saturday.

  3. I would give them a call and ask politely.  as far as knowing how to speak, just observe the language your coworkers use and base your decisions off their actions, that is until you have enough confidence to feel comfortable with what you will be doing.  For your first time talking to them be polite and helpful.  If your working in a diner just use friendly language.

  4. I'd go in if I was you.  'Hi, could I please look at the schedule for next week?'.  Good luck.
