I am going on a road trip to my cousin's house(lives next door to my dad). He lives 3 hours away and my dad wanted me to drive down there to him.(parents are divorced) My mom on the other hand doesn't won't me going and think I will get into a bad situation. I made sure I printed off the directions for backup just to make sure I am on the right track and I have a map. I am 17 and a half and I had my permit for about 2 1/2 years before my mom let me get my driver's licence. I will be in the car by myself and I will leave early in the morning (7am or possibly 8) so that if I get lost or if something happens, it won't be in the middle of the night where I can't see where I am going or where I am at. Also my mom will guide me out to the interstate from our house to make sure I get to the highway safely. My dad will not guide me back to his place because I know my way through the town he stays in very well.

Do you have any tips, or suggestions for this 3 hour long drive?

  1. 1. When you are driving alone, it is easy to get distracted looking at the dashboard--changing CDs, changing temperature, etc. If something doesn't work, just leave it or try fix it when you get a chance to stop somewhere.

    2. Don't drive hungry, angry and wanting to use the bathroom. Take care of these things before you start.

    3. Make sure your cell phone is charged or remember to carry a car charger.

    4. Have a drink handy, preferable with a straw. Sipping on it regularly keeps you fresh and alert.

    5. Take a break half way. Use the bathroom, wash your face, get a drink.
