I am an apprentice who has almost got his liscence as of june 2008. (M2 to be exact) the company I currently work for hasn't really been the place I wanted to work at so I applied to another company in Toronto.

They called me back the next day after I applied, so I went for an interview and they gave me the job on the spot and offered to match my wages I currently make.

The question that I am asking is that, do you think I will still be able to get my license if I move to a better company that offers line maintenance all the time as opposed to heavy overhaul which I currently work on? .....thanks for your help

  1. Yes you can. Check with the Apprenticeship board. And you can always challenge the final exam.

  2. Get your licence first and if your next employer is keen to have you, he will wait.

Just sit back and reflect on this scene that if you are in the shoes of the future boss.  Questions to ask yourself; can I trust this employee who do not complete what he has committed... Look! he did not even bother to finish his apprenticeship which is to end in June 2008... just a few months.. the assessment is that he may not go all out to complete important tasks assign to him...

Leave with a good impression and who knows, you could land back into the company again.. This industry is very specialised and limited..

  3. If it's similar to the States, it might benefit you to go ahead and move on, make sure you have in your possession detailed information about what you have done during your current apprenticeship.  In the US it is hard to get your signoff for certification based on work experience, but not impossible.  I don't know if Canada is the same or not.  Check with your certificating authority.
