no one will hire me because they say their insurance won't let them, who will hire a felon as a truck driver with very little experience

  1. Swift and Covenant probably will.

I have been told Swift will (in most cases) as long as you don't lie and are completely upfront about it. Covenant hired a guy with 1 Felony and 6 Misdemeanors (he was even a star on "To Catch a Predator")

There are many that will but I name both those 2 companies because they also train so you don't need experience. You already have a CDL but they would probably want you to go with a trainer for awhile.

  2. You just have to keep looking.  I know several excons who have gotten hired to drive OTR and local.  One I know well drives for a crane service, another drives for Coke.

Your best hope is the locals, but some of the nationals will hire you.

  3. Military, you can usually get a waiver but its case-by-case. If they see your offense as not all that bad, youll be in. Besides that youll have a tough time finding a civilian CDL job.

  4. The military won't take a felon, it is a non-waiver-able offense. In terms of driving a truck, the Industry is heavily regulated by the Insurance people. Sometimes local companies need some one to jockey trailers around the yard. I have a friend whose serving time, in fact I trained him for OTR. He picked up a load of humans out of Laredo, TX and got caught. Good person/STUPID move concept. Try coming from that angle when you apply.

  5. Moving vans and local delivery if your lucky, a felony pretty much ends your career as a truck driver, you can not go into Canada and most OTR have got to be able to go there.
