  1. I'm Canadian, but there should be a similar thing in the US. Call the IRS and find out if you can "elect to file" for those years you have missed. This will save you the penalty on the late filing, but you will still be on the hook for the interest. I believe if you are incarcerated there are specific exemptions you can take.

Talk to a CPA or the IRS branch near you.

  2. Call the IRS at 1-800-829-0922 and they will tell you exactly what years you need to file--it may not be any at all, depending on your income. It's also possible that you may not be required to file 2005, 2006, and 2007, but if you had withholding or qualified for the Earned Income Tax Credit, you should file to get it. You wouldn't qualify for any refunds from returns earlier than 2005 because of the statute of limitations.

If you do have to file and/or you want to to claim a refund, they can order the income information for you as well as the forms. Although you might have to wait awhile on hold, overall it's much faster since you'll find out exactly what you need to do.

  3. Regardless of what everyone says about

"not having to file" if income is this or that; is not true.  We are required to file an income tax yearly.  If you call IRS they will review your w2 information and let you know if IRS requires a return to be filed.

Contact IRS at 1-800-829-1040 or visit your local IRS office to obtain copies of you W2 (wage informationt) if you don't have them available.  IRS will request Tax Return for 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 to be filed.

Best thing to do is file before IRS files for you.

Good luck and glad to see you are going the right direction.

  4. Believe it or not, Call them. It sounds dumb, but really they will help you. Also I believe if you make less than 10K a year, you are not required to file. They probably owe you a refund. Tell them it was an honest mistake, you will be just fine.

  5. if you made less than 8500 a year in recent years and are single, you wouldn;t have owed much if any tax, if you had any dependents, you could have made about $2000-3000 more per year per dependent and still not owed any tax

  6. If the total you made each year was less than, say, $6250 from wages, then you don't owe.  ($6250 was the amount in 1994;  last year it was $8750.)

If you don't owe (or had enough withheld to cover the tax), the IRS doesn't come after you.

So start with 2005, 2006 and 2007.  File those.  Request income statements using form 4506-T and get the forms at irs.gov by typing the year into the search box.

  7. if you are interested in making more money there is a great business opportunity going on right now that you could benefit from. i just drove 3 hours this past weekend for a conference to check it out and im really convinced this could be the next big money maker. you work from home and arent dedicated to anything. go to this site below and read about it and sign up! i guarantee you wont be disappointed. youll be writing me 4-6 months from now thanking me!!

as far as the irs goes.... call this number  1-800-829-4933

youll be on hold for a good 20-30 minutes but youll get to actually talk to a real person. they'll tell you exactly what you need to do.

    good luck!

  8. You'll need to figure out what you made during each of those years, and see if you were over the limit to have to file.  For any year where you made enough to be required to file, you'll need to file a return.

  9. Get yourself a Tax Attorney.  You don't mess with the IRS.  Don't take an easy shortcut... just go to a tax Attorney (recommend you try to get one that used to work for the IRS)
