Is newborns hair to fine or can they contract lice as well? I'm so scared I don't want his little head to itch until I find out how to treat him if newborns can get it...help!

  1. You really need to take him and see the doctor about this and get rid of your headlice asap.

  2. I THINK YOU WILL FIND HEADLICE CAN ATTACH THEM SELFS TO ANYONES HAIR, THATS WHY YOU SHOULD WASH YOUR PILLOW CASES ETC, IF OUR BABYS HAIR IS THIN AND NOT MUCH OF IT, IM SURE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SEE IF ANY LICE ARE ON HIM, IF YOU DO FIND LICE JUST USE CONDITIONER AND PLASTIC NIT COMB, EVERY DAY FOR 3 DAYS

  3. He may have it. Treat yourself first with treatment you can buy at a drugstore, and then after that, cover your baby's head with mayo, it smothers them if there are any there. Make sure you wash all of your baby's blankets and things. also try a vinegar rinse on yourself weekly, it loosens the nits so they are easier to remove.

  4. treat yourself.. your babies hair is so fine you should be able to see the lice I would make a quick call to the pedititrician

  5. Yes he can get lice.

Lavender and cedar oils are natural repellents and will help prevent the lice from laying eggs on his hair.

Diatomaceous Earth is safe to kill lice on bedding, couches, carpet, and even on the head around newborns.

  6. You don't need to worry too much. If you haven't got an infestation, don't go treating yourself (or more importantly your baby) with pesticide treatments. This an overwhelmingly drastic measure that can have serious consequences.

No chemical head lice treatment is legally allowed to be labeled as 'safe' as every insecticide is a poison. Every pesticide preparation has the potential to do serious damage depending on the individual.

You will be able to see if your baby has headlice very easily. With the hair being so fine they will stand out big time if they there.

Get yourself some tea tree oil from your local health food store and mix 10 drops of it in with some water into a spray bottle. You can also mix it with some leave in conditioner. This will repel any live lice. Straighten your hair with a hot iron, this will pop any nits.

    Good luck.

  7. I doubt it.  He probably does not have enough hair for the lice to live in.  Check his head to be sure.

  8. This might sound silly, but why not just trim his hair? It will be better than using a chemical shampoo and he will never notice.

  9. I have found when my stepdaughter brings home head lice (which she does frequently) my 9 month old baby doesn't get them. It may just be luck but I think they don't like her fine baby hair. You should be able to see lice really easily on baby hair. If he does have them you can just put on a gentle baby conditioner (on dry hair) and pick the live ones off and then pick eggs off manually. I have found that the nasty little things seem to stay away from baby hair.

Edit: don't use essential oils on such a young baby. If he has them you'll be able to manage it with just conditioner!

  10. He can get it. No hair is too fine. You need to treat your hair, and afterwards use Head & Shoulders with Pantene conditioner to heal your scalp, because they will smell the sores and come back.

  11. If he has enough hair, they'll like his little noggin too.
